A Note on Gear. I am a minimalist. The lists below are near and dear to me as tried-and-tested, true essentials, used again and again in my own kitchen. Everything is dishwasher friendly (except the dutch oven & banneton). Happy browsing!
ESSENTIALS: EVERYDAY WORK HORSES
Standard mixing bowls
Take-apart kitchen shears
Large mixing spoons, baking & egg spatula, and a smaller, jar scraper spatula
Large silicone cooking spatula, if you need a reason to upgrade, do it 😏
Mini muffin silicone pan for bite-sized everything
Non-plastic cutting boards, $$$ but amazing quality and dishwasher safe
Parchment paper - buy in bulk at a place like Costco if you can
Long zester and short zester, and replace every few years, as you can’t resharpen!
Baking storage set for the type-a kitchen organizers out there
Made In’s rectangular baking dish and square baking dish, such high quality and thermal shock resistant ceramic
FOR COOKIE BAKING 🍪
Hand mixer because standing mixers are intense, let’s keep it simple
Ice cream scoop for evenly sized, big cookies
Or a smaller ice cream scoop for medium cookies
Silicone baking mats - off-brand is fine - or parchment paper
FOR COOKIE DECORATING 🎨
Cookie cutters in basic shapes, numbers, holiday, novelty- if you have an idea, roll with it!
Meringue powder for royal icing
Gel food dyes for royal icing or natural food dyes
Elderberry extract for pinks, blueberry extract for blues
Cookie “marker” if your designs get sneaky intricate (guilty as charged)
FOR BREAD MAKING 🥖
Kitchen scale for tearing and weighing in grams - wipe clean only
Cling wrap in bulk or good quality bees wax paper if you’re anti-plastic
Banneton for the shape and size of the loaf you want to make - hand wash only
Flat topped dutch oven with a trivet - hand wash only
Round silicone mat or a bread silicone mat, if you already have a dutch oven with a handle on top (not flippable)
Kitchen shears for scoring (they’re just so much easier than the scoring tools)
FOR SOURDOUGH STARTER 🍞
Kitchen scale for feeding your starter in grams - wipe clean only
Tall, extra-wide-mouth jar with a screw-on lid
Jar scraper for mixing
KITCHEN REFRESH!
Laguiole heritage steak knives (yes, dishwasher safe!)
Aarke stainless steel kettle if you use a kettle everyday, like me, treat yourself to this upgrade, just wow!

If you have Whole Foods near home, and you’re already an Amazon Prime member, their $99.99/year grocery delivery and curbside pick up is incredible. As a busy, working family, we use this service every week (okay more like multiple times a week)!
