TO HAVE AND TO HOLD 〰️ TO LOVE AND BE LOVED 〰️

This is a modification of an incredible brownie recipe from Dishing Out Health here. Tahini helps negate some sugar overload + I’ve added chocolate protein powder which also helps to downplay the blood sugar jolt.

The cutting of these delicious, fudgy and bold brownies might be the only difficult step. These feel too bad to be good, but alas, maybe that’s the whole reason I keep coming back to them.

INGREDIENTS

  • 12 oz chocolate tahini, well-stirred (I use a full jar of Soom Foods, Chocolate Sea Salt tahini ) or sub creamy cashew butter

  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder

  • 1/4 cup chocolate protein powder

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt

  • 5-6oz, (1/2 bag) of chocolate chips (dark, milk chocolate, whatever you prefer) or sub with raw, chopped walnuts

  • Optional: creamy tahini to drizzle on top

  • Optional: flaky salt to sprinkle on top

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat your oven to 350ºF and line a large, deep baking dish (~8x12) with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, combine tahini, maple syrup, eggs, and vanilla extract; stir or whisk to combine.

  3. Add cocoa powder, protein powder, baking powder, and salt; use a wooden spoon or silicone spatula to stir until the mixture is smooth.

  4. Fold in chocolate chips (or walnuts).

  5. Pour the batter into your lined baking dish. Scrape the sides of the bowl and evenly spread it into the corners and edges of the dish with a spatula or spoon.

  6. Optional: add a drizzle of creamy tahini and swirl around the top for a pop of color texture, and add a few more chocolate chips on top.

  7. Bake for 24-26 minutes. Sprinkle the dish with flaky salt right after pulling them out of the oven.

  8. Let these brownie cool completely in the dish (stick them in the fridge if you are in a rush). Resist cutting until cooled completely!

  9. Remove the whole batch of brownies by lifting the edges of the parchment paper, transfer to a cutting board, and make your brownie cuts with a hot chef’s knife for cleaner lines. Enjoy a la mode, or stand alone!
